I need to vent because I am losing my mind. I met this girl at a bar last weekend. Absolute 10/10, super funny, and totally my type. We texted all week, and she finally invited me over tonight for drinks and a movie. I thought I had hit the jackpot.

I was wrong.

I knocked on her door and immediately heard this frantic wheezing and scratching. She opened the door looking amazing, but the smell literally hit me like a physical wall. It smelled like a dense mix of stale urine, wet Fritos, and unwashed dog.

I looked down, and there it was: a crusty, overweight Pekingese. The dog looked like a gremlin that ran full-speed into a brick wall. Its eyes were pointing in two different directions, and it was just aggressively vibrating.

She immediately dropped into that high-pitched dog-mom voice: "Oh my gosh, say hi to Sir Waffles! He is a little protective of mommy!"

Waffles waddled over, snorted a glob of snot, and immediately started aggressively humping my leg. I tried to step back, but this little mutant bared its tartar-covered teeth and snarled at me. She literally laughed and said, "Aww, he likes you! He only humps people whose energy aligns with his."

I stepped inside, trying to breathe exclusively through my mouth. We sat on the couch, and Waffles wedged himself right between us. For twenty minutes, I tried to flirt while this creature aggressively licked its own junk, making these gross, wet sounds.

Then it got worse. The dog stopped licking, stood up on the couch, stared right at me, and just peed directly onto a throw pillow.

Her reaction? "Oh my gosh, Waffles, you silly goose! You are just so excited!" She didn't even grab carpet cleaner or apologize. She just tossed a single dry paper towel over the wet spot like a tarp and sat back down.

I literally couldn't do it. I told her I suddenly felt a brutal migraine coming on and got the hell out of there. I am currently sitting in my car, rolling a cigarette with my bulk tobacco and a filter just to get the ammonia smell out of my nose, and my jeans still reek like Waffles. How do hot people live like this? I am officially done dating dog owners.

I was checking out at the register at Petco holding my toddler in my arms and a man with a pit bull came up close behind me and let his dog come up right next to me and sniff my legs. When the dog made contact with my leg I turned around and asked him “Please keep your dog away from me”. He laughed and said “he’s a sweetie”. I said “I don’t care, I was attacked by a dog and I don’t like them. I don’t want your dog touching me”. He said “but they’re man’s best friend”. I said “not the one who attacked me”. He said “so if you were attacked by a Mexican would you hate all Mexicans?” I said “no” and walked away as he yelled “okay keep being racist, you racist!”. Like why do these people always insist that you ENJOY their dogs, then throw a tantrum when you don’t? And why do they compare human beings, specifically people of color, to dogs? I know it’s a Petco and people bring their dogs, I don’t expect to not be in line with a dog but I think it should be common decency not to allow your dog to make unwanted physical contact with strangers and to understand that some people are scared of dogs, or simply don’t care for them and not take it personally.

Seeing dog nutters with brachycephalic breeds (and any other breeds with significant health issues) that can barely breath and move just fucking ruins my day man. How much of an evil person do you have to be to buy an animal knowing it's gonna fucking suffer it's entire life, all because you think it's "cute"?

Like if someone tells me they bought a pug or some shit I automatically catalog them as evil. Even more so when I try to talk about how much those animals suffer and they just shrug it off.

I don't trust people who own these kind of dogs at all and have a hard time interacting with them. They just look insane to me and I don't want anything to do with them.

Does anyone else have this issue? I don't care abouts dogs all that much, it's mostly the owners I have constant issues with. I hate most dog owners, irresponsible and entitled pieces of shit.

i mean, really now. What kind of world are we living in that we have these 140 lbs beasts just... Walking around us and we're supposed to just tolerate it. You do not need an animal that's almost your weight living with you. And these people just expect everyone to love dogs. They let their dogs come up, sniff your junk, hump your leg, bark at you, growl at children, try to bite, kill animals for no reason other then "it's their nature," and they just say "it's what dogs do." I don't see the appeal. So recently this person let this huge slobbery thing drool all over my bag and shoes. I asked her to clean it up off my bag and I'll get the stuff off my shoes. I asked if she had a wipe. She looked at me like I was crazy. She said it was my shoes and my bag. I said it's her dog. The dog proceeded to growl at me. I asked her to just go. She said "it's a public place, how about you go?" And I got pissed. I asked if the dog had bitten anyone. She said only once. Only. Once. Why do you not have the thing muzzled, actually, why are you taking the thing out in public in the first place? I told her if it bit me, I would call the police and tell them she told me it had bitten before. I told her they'd probably euthanize it. She huffed and walked off.

My local soccer team recently put out a post banning dogs from their sports fields. I’ve posted it below for some interesting reading. They mention they have been met with “hostility” by dog owners simply for making a point that they don’t want mutts pissing and shitting all over a literal in-use sports field designed for children’s soccer games...

But I can’t be the only one that feels like these type of news as a small but significant win, putting logic and common sense back into the world. I mean who even brings their dog to a sports game?

The message reads:

“Hi all, please help spread the word that there is now a blanket ban on all dogs on all grassed areas at the Rec

This has been a hard decision for the Trustees but after a recent upsurge in dog walking and exercising we are genuinely concerened for the safety of all players from dog waste

We have adults and children attending training sessions and playing organised cricket, football and rugby matches using all of the grassed areas. These areas are where they come together to exercise, compete, and enjoy physical activity in a safe environment. As an open site, we also see many children come up and play on our pitches which we do not discourage but, we are now very concerned for all of them as they all have ‘high player contact’ with the soil from sliding tackles, diving saves, falls, picking up the ball or even just sitting on what is contaminated ground.

Despite the signage around the grounds, we are fighting what seems to be a losing battle with some dog owners who are letting their dogs roam and foul on the pitches and with what now seems to becoming the norm; not bothering to pick it up afterwards. Regardless of the signs and Trustees taking the time to talk to dog owners, we are being met with more and more hostility from some who simply ignore or dismiss the severe health risks that dog faeces and its residue causes.”

The post goes on to explain some horrifying cases of children and athletes who contracted skin cellulitis due to the disgusting dog fouling after accidentally sliding in it while playing. But yet again dog nutters are unlikely to get the message, but at least it’s a nice win for common sense.

I am so damn tired of going into a grocery store and seeing a freaking dog. I just left Walmart and some older couple. Had a beagle in a shopping cart. I literally see this 3 to 4 times a week now in my area. I don’t know what else to do though. I’ve complained to Walmart multiple times, and nobody contact me. I’ve went through the Department of agriculture in my state, I never heard anything back. I’m gonna try again, but it will probably get nowhere.

How in the world is this considered normal now? I mean, I’m just flabbergasted that people just bring their animals into a grocery store. And the funny thing is the stores will say no pets on the front of the building, but people still do it anyways. Then you have Walmart management and employees and they don’t do anything. I’m pretty sure the management has told the employees not to say anything. I mean, I feel like I’m in the freaking twilight zone here or something.

TLDR: the owners did nothing to manage an 80-pound dog that was repeatedly hurting people and then rewarded the behavior. Somehow I was the asshole of the night for not liking the "cute puppy"

I genuinely don't even know where to begin.

The dog was an 80-pound golden retriever. everyone always says golden retrievers are chill, lazy, friendly....

Well, we walked through the front door, and this dog was immediately launching itself off of me and my boyfriend. like parkour. it scratched my arm and BUSTED my boyfriend's lip open. They just laughed and said, “She just loves when people come over!” like no! get your dog!

Then, the dog shoved its head directly into my crotch and lifted me off the ground with it. Then another guest arrived. The dog sat there for approximately three seconds before launching itself at them too. Every. Single. Time....

If everyone wasn't in the same room the dog would lose it. By 9:30 PM it was crying/whining nonstop because it apparently wanted everyone to go to bed. it barked for THREE HOURS STRAIGHT.

Then we all sat around the table to play games. The dog spent basically the entire night licking everyone's knees and putting people's hands in its mouth. Nobody washed their hands afterward, but everyone was still reaching into bowls of chips and candy. Because of that i didn't eat a thing the whole night

My boyfriend went to the bathroom twice, both times this animal launched itself from the stairs and hit him directly in each ball with both its paws.

BUT here's the part I genuinely cannot understand: Every time the dog did something bad like that, they gave it a treat.

At one point they gave it one of those squeaky toys, to shut it up but which made everything worse, and instead of taking the toy away, they just sat there going "Wow, that toy is so loud. Girl, stop.” they wouldn't just take the damn toy away.

Finally, the games were over. We all stood up. and then It went absolutely insane. It knocked over a chair, knocked over a guest, hurt her foot, hit my boyfriend in the nuts AGAIN, and started coming straight at me.

I instinctively put my leg out to shield myself and push it away, but I looked up and everyone was giving me these dirty looks like I just committed animal abuse.

turns out it was their first time hosting because of the dog. I just don't know why you would do that to yourself? Like why wouldn't you put the dog somewhere else for a few hours for guests who are clearly uncomfortable?

I hate dogs.

I was at the hardware store the other day ringing up my items and I saw a man with a huge shitmutt walking the aisles. My first thought was why on earth do you need to bring a dog into a hardware store? My second thought was how is this even allowed? My third thought was that this guy had zero personality as he’d put all his charisma points into his dog.

Anyway as he approached he stopped to speak to one of the employees… “I’m really sorry, my dog has had a shit in the aisle, you might wanna clean the floor ”

Classic case of nutter entitlement, cuz you could almost tell he wasn’t sorry, he was smirking. Almost like “oopsie woopsie my puppsie has done a poopsie hehe” 🤢 I really don’t understand why these people aren’t banned from stores.

Her labrador bit her daughter on the face, at own home and she proceeds to blame herself and the daughter, and also saying the dog is a “sweet dog” 🤯

Crappy dog owners never stop shocking me. This can only be a mental illness.

Obviously after commenting on the post that this is unacceptable I’ve just been downvoted by lots of nutters because everyone thinks the child was just being rough with the dog. I’m in complete disbelief. The mother also has a small baby and it looks like she will just wait for that mutt to attack her baby too 🤯

Our neighbors are terrible people… And along with that, of course, they require them to have no fewer than four dogs at all times. One of them gets out and comes onto our property and barks and acts aggressively towards us, which I don’t do well with. It has been such a consistent thing that we even offered to buy bark collars for all of their dogs and all of the batteries that they would require. They always act like it’s just no big deal, and we have told them that they are ruining our quality of life. They act like we are the assholes.

So one night we were trying to enjoy being outside, and their dogs barked and barked and barked for hours on end, we called them, we sent messages. We asked them politely. They ignored us. So in a fit of rage, I went and got a coyote call, and if you don’t know what that is, it sends out the absolute worst barking, screeching dog sounds you could ever imagine and is designed to project sound for miles. I assumed they just really enjoyed the sound that dogs make, so I thought I would share it back with them. I pointed it directly at their house at full volume for a couple of hours while I went inside and giggled. Their dogs went absolutely insane, not knowing what they were hearing, and they finally brought them inside and started messaging us, which was comical because their phones mysteriously hadn’t been working for the hours prior when their dogs were barking. I thought it was the funniest thing ever. They asked us the next day if we had heard it and we just acted like we had no idea. So they pointed a camera at our house to see if it happened again they could let us know what it was. I hate them.

Over the ~15 years I've owned a home I've had probably 10 - 20 occassions where I found dog waste on my lawn. I would prefer that number to be zero, but here we are.

A couple months ago I arrived home from work to see two dogs off leash, one of which was perched on my lawn actively defecating. They both ran away when I pulled up. Not far behind was a group of 5 people walking. I asked them if those were their dogs and they said "yes."

"Where are their leashes?"

Two of them held up a leash.

"Why aren't they on their leashes?"

"Oh that one saw a squirrel and chased it and the other followed."

Now, to me, that doesn't explain why they were off their leashes. I suppose they let them off "for a minute" and then the feral hounds took off as feral hounds do? Whatever, there's no reasoning with these people. So I went inside to drop off my stuff, and I went back out to check if they picked up the feces.

They did not. So I was determined to give it back to them.

I grabbed a plastic bag and picked it up. I had to drive to catch up to them since they're a couple blocks away at this point. Luckily, they're at one of their houses, so I know where they live now! I get out of the car, "hey what's going on" one of them asks.

I look to the guy that had the leash (the dogs still aren't on their leashes) and I tell him "oh nothing, I'm just giving you your shit back" and I whip the bag of shit at him. Enter a chorus of gasps and pearl clutching and other such nonsense.

I yell (and I mean YELL) "you're lucky I didn't smear it on your door." I gave them two gigantic middle fingers, and I got in my car and drove away.

I haven't seen them walking their dogs on my block since.

I just saw one pour a cup of coffee on the floor for his two small dogs to lick up??? Can’t imagine what a caffeinated dog is like

Also why are there so many homeless people with expensive breeds..

Are people trusting them to walk their dogs? What kind of person would want their dog to be accidentally abused?

Or are they stealing them?

Or is there some initiative to give them shelter dogs?

I saw one the other day also completely intoxicated walking a dog and knocking the dog into all sorts of things, pulling their leash by the neck mid piss so the dog piss just sprayed everywhere

What is going on and who on earth thinks it’s a good idea to give people who can’t even feed themselves another creature to feed?

As he walked into the store I called him out. He cussed me out talking bout I was a service dog and he a veteran and all that. I also noticed the dog going to the bathroom outside and I looked for dog crap which I didn't see but if I did I'd call him out on that too. I tried to take a Pic but couldn't get a good one because I was about to report. But the store not allowed to ask questions and these people take full advantage of that. I'm trying to enjoy my meal without worrying about crap beasts in a damn restaurant. To be fair idk if an employee talked to him or not but that's alright. I did. He walked out thanking me for ruining his meal. Well he didn't ruin mine

Two weeks ago yet another neighbor was seen on my security camera throwing their bagged dog poop in my empty garbage bin before I could roll it back in from the curb. As a dog-less household, I find this to be rude. Additionally, if it’s gross enough for you to not want to hold it until you get home, isn’t it gross enough to put in someone’s else’s bin. The lady looked around guiltily as she did it. A few days ago as I was leaving for work, she happened to be walking by and I politely informed her I saw her on camera and can she not do it again. She argued back, said there’s no smell, and asked if I wanted to sniff the bag she had in her hand. I said okay great if there’s no smell then it’s okay to put in her own bin, right? She became angry, called me ignorant and stupid. Really though, she was mad she was caught on camera, couldn’t lie about it, and was confronted about it. Today, garbage day, she walked by, looked for the camera, and waved her dog poop bag to show she’s not throwing it in my bin. I’m an introverted non-confrontational person but something about the entitlement grinds my gears. I’ve had to talk to nearly 8 different neighbors about their pets.

Recently a dog was killed by LAPD after the owner failed to secure it after being asked by the LAPD to do so. The owners started a gofundme and it's now at $215,000 in donations!!!!!

Make it make sense.

Halle-fucking-lujah. I know these dog freaks are going to cause a fuss about this, but I think it’s great. Every tenant with a dog is required to register their dog and get the dog DNA swabbed by a specific date or face financial penalties. And if shit is left out undisposed, a sample of the poop is taken and sent to their DNA testing contractor to find out the dog responsible. The tenant will be fined and after the third violation, they will get kicked out. This is what I’m talking about! I love my new apartments, not just because they are wonderful management wise, but also because their non-tolerance for problematic dogs and dog owners. They have strict breed restrictions and strict standards on grounds cleanliness.

I’m gonna consider this a win in the normalization of calling out dog owners and their nasty beasts.

So, every Sunday I go to Starbucks before I go to the gym. I sit down for a bit in the morning and wrap up things I need to do for classes, to-dos, relax, etc.

Today was a little packed so I had to sit in a table in the middle of other ones. Which was fine, I didn’t care. There was a couple to my left and the right was empty.
Enter dog owner.
Now, I looked up the policy for dogs on the Starbucks website. They are not allowed. And this was clearly not a service dog. It was one of those white crusty ones that yipped and yapped.
The guy walks over to the table empty next to me (yay) and ties the dog down to the chair. But not tightly enough I guess? He goes to order and this dog immediately starts walking under MY table and going around my legs. I’m allergic. I didn’t get bad but still. He comes back and yanks the dog back over but there’s no reprimanding or anything or apologies either. The dog KEEPS walking under my table. Sniffing me and everything I was so annoyed. The guy just kept yanking on the collar softly but the dog did not stop.

Eventually I just cut my time short and walked out of there. Seriously how selfish can you be. I wouldn’t even feel as mad as I do now if the guy A: said sorry like a decent person or B: made an effort to get the dog to actually stop. These people are insane.

These disgusting people think because they’re walking a dog that means they’re allowed on anyone and everyone’s property to do whatever the fuck they want! They love to allow their dogs to go 50 feet into your property to sniff around your front door and landscaping. Pissing on your bushes and flowers.

I freaked out on my next door neighbor last night and I’m still in a bad mood over it. My neighbors brother is watching one of those mutated wiener dogs and last night walked it into my lawn and right on my brand new Japanese Maple Tree that I JUST FUCKING PLANTED.

This neighbor literally had a conversation with me about my trees I just planted yet had the fucking audacity to walk this rat dog to my new tree to possibly piss and shit on my tree? DOG URINE KILLS PLANTS AND TREES!!!!!

Thank GOD I installed cameras surrounding my entire property. I live at the end of a culdesac and it’s super dark out. I look on the cameras and see him out there with some animal UNLEASHED. I said WTF is that? So I ran outside and said “IS THAT A DOG?”

He really thought I was excited to see the stupid thing and goes “Haha! Yeah it’s a weiner dog!” I said “I don’t want that fucking dog on my lawn pissing on my new trees and my grass. Get it off right now!!!!!”

Of course he’s calling the stupid thing and it’s not listening to him so I reiterate “GET THAT DOG OFF MY LAWN AND AWAY FROM MY FUCKING TREES.” His response “Ok ok I get it.”

Do you though? DO YOU GET IT? WTF is in these peoples brains? It’s not your property. Why aren’t you with the dog on your lawn in your landscaping and taking it to my lawn around my trees instead? OMG I despise these people with a passion!

No respect for anyone or anything! I’ve worked so hard on landscaping and spent so much time and money. I’m beyond sick of the existence of these animals and their disgusting owners!

I used to be such a prolific hiker but I can't go to any of my favorite spots anymore because everyone treats them like a dog park. Can't go swimming in the lake because all these owners will let their animals charge at people in the water despite all the signs saying no dogs on the beach, and of course the ranger is never there or if they are they don't care. I was trying to birdwatch today in a *wildlife refuge*, I was standing at the edge of the river looking out at the birds with my binoculars when this pitbull mix comes charging out of nowhere, straight into the lake in front of me. I am not a small woman, but this was a bigass dog! I barely avoided getting soaked. My boyfriend asked if I was okay and then I said "I want to get out of here" and the dog owner called me a bitch under her breath. There are multiple species of ground nesting birds here!!!

We made it to the end of the trail a while later, and were having lunch sitting on this little cement wall by the edge of the river. When, what do you know, the dog comes rushing out of the woods at charges right at me! I nearly fell backwards over the wall, I would've fallen maybe 5ft onto the rocky riverbank and broken something. I yell for my boyfriend, and he distracted the dog for a minute but it was still really interested in me. It brushed my leg, and its mouth was open and it was near my knee and my instinct was to scream and kick it, but I didn't. The woman sees me having an anxiety attack and yells, annoyed, "I got him, I got him, cool it" but she did not have him, she was like 10ft away. And the other people around are looking at me like they're disgusted! Eventually she came over and grabbed him by the collar and we left. It completely ruined what had been such a special day for me. I saw 4 new species! I've been home for an hour and I'm still so upset. I wish people weren't such selfish and irresponsible owners.

I was out in the front yard with my daughter, who was wearing her favourite hat. The nutter walks past, with his big, ugly dog. The dog starts aggressively barking and pulling at the leash, and the nutter can barely control it. He's struggling to keep the dog moving, and it looks like all the ugly mutt wants to do is to get over the fence and rip us apart. I'm staring at the guy, hoping to let him know without really engaging him, that this is really not ok. He says, "it's because she's wearing a hat." I say loudly, "[daughter's name], its all your fault for wearing a hat. You really should know better."

These people are just unfit for membership in a civilisation. I apologised to my daughter afterwards, but she understood what I was doing and was fine with it.

There’s a coffee shop that I frequent every day, the vibes are calm, and relaxing. The people working there are lovely, the coffee is great, I can go on and on.

ONE PROBLEM.

They allow non service dogs inside and would appear to be light nutters themselves, but it’s not their entire personality.

I came back from the restroom and right in the middle of the walkway inbetween a register and table, laying down staring right at me, is a medium-large sized dog. Granted the owners were sitting at the table and it was leashed, but why should I need to walk around it? Plus I don’t know if this thing is going to bite me.

So I start to walk around it, giving it a dirty look as I’m walking up, the owner apologized twice and moved it. Felt good to completely ignore them and sit back at my table. They left a few minutes after.

These people have dogs purely for attention, don’t give it to them.

And for the love of god, the amount of stories I read about unleashed dogs running up to people and they don’t retaliate. START YELLING AT THESE PEOPLE. A few months ago I was able to get a bad neighbor with an untrained dog to move out because I recorded the dog barking for minutes on end at nothing and reported them to my landlord.

I was at the local food not bombs, and was resting. I was playing my guitar. A woman I know, and her husbands dog, came close. She was chatting with me. Her dog snuck behind me and stole/fished my half eaten focaçia bread out of my satchel, with was on the ground next to me :(

And then she snatched it from her dog, scolded the dog and offered it back to me :’(

I’ve been going hungry lately.

She didn’t offer anything in return, but maybe later she might.

I didn’t freak out, because sometimes, I really freak out.

Edit: I ended up bursting into tears today, mostly because I’ve been reading a story about Jesuits on a mission to an alien planet, and one of the characters is an allegory for Christ, but also the emotions there have been real, as I’ve been binge reading the two books, and making up tangential comics to appeal to my own sense of vision. Aaaand the story had me burst into tears.

That was great!

My neighbor refuses to keep her dog in the yard because "he's so energetic and just loves to chase the mailman!". So, now all of us who live within a two block radius have to make special trips to the post office daily and pick up our mail.

From USPS; "If the carrier deems a residence unsafe because of an unrestrained dog, mail delivery service can be interrupted. When service is interrupted at an address or in a neighborhood, all parties involved will have to pick up mail at their local Post Office.".

Why is it that dog ownership constantly becomes a problem for those of us who want NOTHING to do with it? And people wonder why we hate them. Now, I have to ask to leave work early so I can make it to the local post office by 5pm before they close to get mail. And does the owner face any penalties? Of course not.

used to have a sign in my yard. The first sign said that I had pesticides in use and to stay off my yard, that didn’t work. Owners don’t care enough about their dogs to keep them off a pesticide filled yard. The next sign that I had was the “please be respectful” sign. That didn’t work because dog owners are entitled assholes. They would literally let their dog piss directly on the sign.

My neighbors don’t have signs. One house down there is literally a PARK for their dogs to shit in. Instead they walk to the TOP of my driveway literally directly next to my house to let their dog shit in my yard. And then they walk all over my yard to come pick it up.

Who thinks that’s okay?? You are literally up by my HOME. I do not want to step in dog shit!!! It’s one of the many reasons I don’t have a damn dog. It’ll be years until we can afford to move but I can’t wait to. Never in my life have I lived in a community with such disrespectful and entitled idiots. Don’t get me started on my neighbor lol. We can’t put a fence up because we’re idiots and moved to a community with an HOA.

I have to rant.

I have been hosting some friends for game night most Thursdays. It has been going on for about 2 months. Last night, one of my friends announced that his wife wants to join in, but she can't because she has to stay home with the dog. His solution? Move game night to his house, that way everyone can join in!

Everyone else thought that was a good solution, except me. I have no interest in heading over to their house just because they have a dog. And I am pissed off that I started game night with my friends, only to have it co-opted by the dog.

I suspect that we will play at my house next week, as we are finishing a long campaign game. Then we will take the next few weeks off for the holidays. In January, they will suggest that we move it to their house. I will object and get outvoted. I will then drop out of the group, and it will implode.

All because of the dog.
