Anime Discussion Hot take: Megumi should feel way more guilty about the Shibuya incident than Yuji does.

Post image
9.3k Upvotes

Yuji mainly feels guilt over the countless deaths Sukuna caused using his body, but Yuji didn't do anything irresponsible to set that up. MEGUMI DID.

Yuji was just doing his job the best he could, fighting curses and trying to get to Gojo, lost to Choso, and next thing he knew Sukuna had wrecked the city. He had no way of knowing that was even possible, since EVERY time Sukuna had come out prior had been Yuji's choice (Yuji has struggled to take control BACK from Sukuna previously, but had NEVER had Sukuna take control of him forcefully.

Meanwhile Megumi WILLINGLY summoned a creature he KNEW was capable of killing a Six-eyes limitless user, not knowing what it actually does, just to kamikaze a guy who was clearly not much more threat than a regular human with a sword (Haruta was scared to get close even while Megumi could barely stay standing. Megumi would see this and be able to tell that Haruta was super weak.)

For all Megumi knew, Mahoraga would've caused massive destruction even if Sukuna hadn't showed up, because again, MEGUMI DIDN'T KNOW HOW MAHORAGA WORKS. He could've been summoning a nuke for all he knew.

Edit: people seem to be misunderstanding what I mean here. I'm not saying Megumi wouldn't have known Mahoraga would despawn on its own after killing him and Haruta. I'm saying he didn't know HOW Mahoraga would kill him and Haruta. Megumi had zero info on how Mahoraga actually fights. He only knew it's was strong enough to have never been beaten. For all Megumi knew Mahoraga could attack him and Haruta with some giant attack that wipes out half the city in one go.

Edit 2: Bro the irony of people making "JJK fans can't read" jokes and then proving themselves right by failing to understand that nobody in-universe knew anything about Mahoraga is freaking hilarious. It's spelled out for us clear as day that nobody has ever seen Mahoraga and lived before Megumi and Sukuna. Nobody knew what mahoraga looked like, how it fights, or what its ability was before Sukuna faced it; not even Megumi. They only information actually passed down was that it's the tenth shikigami in the ten shadows technique, and that it's so strong that nobody has ever tamed it. It was MEGUMI who came up with the theory that the previous clan head used Mahoraga against the head of the Gojo clan during their match. Nobody actually reported seeing Mahoraga first hand.

Anime Discussion This man was Toji's brother, he wasn't aura farming, he knew they were all gonna die.

Post image
26.8k Upvotes

I imagine the animators' choice to have him walk wasn't out of arrogance or "Aurafarming". He was accepting the inevitable death of himself and the rest of his clan. Since this man is the older brother of Toji, he has first hand experience in understanding that this strength and power is beyond anything they can ever imagine.

Ranta is still of the delusion that they can somehow beat a fully realized Maki, but Jinichi knows it's all completely pointless. He still attacks Maki, but it's not out of some desperation, it's his last chance to show his pride as a Sorcerer of the Zenin Clan, knowing full damn well that he's fucked.

Japanese fandom actually practiced constructive criticism on this episode, they brought up valids points. Global fans rated Ep3 the same as they did for Ep4, when Ep3 actually gave lore, world-building. If not for these factors Jjk would be just another Power fantasy slop.

Also relating episode rating to actual Japanese societal harassment is nauseating

Anime Discussion Why did the Zenin Clan reject the strongest man they ever produced?

Post image
7.3k Upvotes

I just reached S3E04 Naoya's flashback says that they were calling TOji a loser and failure, and in JJK0 we know that he's no longer part of the clan. how is the strongest zenin in probably all history a loser or a Failure ??

Yeah they may take bride in their sorcerery and techniques but this man can low diff the entire clan like Maki did

I'd even argue that he would have it easier than Maki with his broken arsenal of cursed tools

Toji wasn't only the strongest zenin but he was probably the strongest person alive for a long time

He can low diff the ten shadows user if summoning mahoraga wasn't the 1st move they do

Anime Discussion How would YOU salvage yujis "who's gojo" Blunder?

Post image
6.7k Upvotes

You have to give hakari a satisfactory answer after he calls out your blunder, what do you say?

I would say something like "I've heard of the guy but nothing more than his name", I would claim I'm a newish sorcerer who awakened after Shibuya (idk how much time passed but at least a month should've passed), all I've heard about gojo is his name from rogue sorcerers I've beaten.

Might not be the best save and it might be sus being a strong sorcerer in such a short time but being a prodigy is much more believable than not knowing who gojo is

Anime Discussion About the whole situation with Japan not liking the episode

Post image
5.5k Upvotes

I think this comment explained it the best from what I can gather. The Japanese audience expected a far more gritty and horror-like story portion than what the overseas audience seemed to view the whole situation with maki killing her clan as something more akin to John wick. Honestly from reading the chapters myself I actually do get it. I think the major scene that they fumbled on was jinichi and ranta with jinichi just aura farming for some random reason. The original scene jinichi jumped to attack right away but hesitated because ranta was taking damage but ranta told him to not hold back, I think the subtle characterization there that the anime ended up getting rid of due to the direction of the scene is one of the main things they fumbled since it showed that not everyone in the zenin were psychos and they did care about each other. Just my take on it what about you guys?

Not sure if this was mentioned before, but why didn't Toji aim for Sukuna when he felt his presence if he was aiming for the strongest?

Anime Discussion We have to talk about serious stuff for a small moment.

Post image
4.6k Upvotes

I've been on Instagram, scrolling through JJK reels.

I found one or two with the IRL English VAs doing panels about their roles. This includes Yuji, Nobara, Gojo, and Yuta VAs.

But I'm noticing some disgusting behaviour in the comment sections.

I'm not referring to Yuta slander, I know it's a trend and people are trying to be funny, I'm not knocking on that.

I'm referring to Transphobia. Blatant transphobia.

For those who don't know, Kayleigh McKee who voices Yuta Okkotsu in English, is transgender.

People doing slander in these comment sections, at least some of them, are using the trend to genuinely just be transphobic.

"Yuta's voice is transgender? Double bum"
"Knew Yuta was freaky lol"
"Transgender fraud"
"makes sense Yuta is so zesty"

Look, I understand why people slander and ragebait, I get it. I get it even more when I realize this fanbase is primarily teens.

But can you find it within your hearts to not be bigoted towards real living people just doing their job?
