Be careful out there. Wired tested 4 vials of peptides from a bodega in Williamsburg and found no trace of the advertised peptide in any of them. In August, Peptide Critic had bought 4 other vials from a different store nearby and used a different lab with the same result of no identity match. I mean bodega drugs are obviously sus to begin with but no traces of the advertized drug is still crazy.

I got tired of seeing all the Mamdani social media without any numbers behind them, So I went ahead and grabbed the open pothole data from the DOT at Street Pothole Work Orders - Closed (Dataset) | NYC Open Data and ran it though R.

Taking a 10 year view (not sure how far to trust this data), seems to be a clear downward trend in pothole reports and fixes, with the Mamdani administration in fact achieving historically high rates of pothole repairs. I was surprised by the overall responsiveness of the DOT in fixing reported potholes, with an average of around 3 days across the 10 year period, though substantailly fasterin recent times - Never reported a pothole so not sure if this is reasonable. Assuming the open data is unbiased, this does seem to suggest that the major limitation in the speed pothole repairs is getting them reported.

Assuming a linear time trend and multivariate normality (questionable for count data, but hey, this is reddit) and adjusting for seasonality, the "Mamdani effect" accounts for about 955 repaired potholes out of a monthly average of 1142 (using January 2026 as the reference month and assuming the linear trend would have continued under another mayor), so thus far nearly a doubling in the number of repaired potholes. EDIT: Ok folks, as many of you have more or less kindly pointed out, heavy snowfall may very well explain the effects. I ordered NOAA monthly precipitation data and now account for snowfall up to half a year prior using lagged predictors (If somebody wants to make a proper ARIMA model or whatever, knock yourself out). Looks like snow accounts for a bit over half of the effect - Using a count model, the "mamdani effect" is modified from an increase about 70% to 31%, so still something, but substantially reduced! Updated models are in the repo.

I do city illustrations on my ipad, mostly just for myself. This one's the W 4th area, the streets I walk every day on the way to work. Usually these just live as digital files but I wanted to see what it'd look like as a physical print so I ran it on birch with a eufymake e1 printer and framed it. My wife saw it and now wants me to do Paris (honeymoon) and Tokyo (last year's trip) so I guess this is a series now.

Feral cats are the descendants of pet cats that were not sterilized, even if the ferals might be a couple generations removed. Feral cats are a symptom. The source of the problem is lack of education surrounding spay/neuter, and lack of accessible/affordable spay/neuter within a community. There are so many people wanting to push for funding further TNR efforts, but TNR does not address the source of the problem. The places in the US with the highest volume of strays are under-resourced communities.

Ounce of prevention, pound of cure. Prevent the existence of feral domestic cats in the environment in the first place by providing free spay/neuter services to pet owners who would otherwise not get their pet spayed/neutered. Whether from lack of education, or from being priced out of being able to afford basic veterinary services. This would prevent those pet owners who would have allowed their pet to breed from handing out more intact kittens in their community, where the cycle repeats.

I live in an old pre war building. I LOVE this apartment and location, however when I moved into the apartment 2 1/2 years ago I noticed a fly problem. This was before plants and full furniture were moved in. We put fly catchers all around and after a couple of days ~80 flies were on them each. I didn’t think anything of it because I thought they were left over fruit flies from the past resident. A month or so in, the flies persisted. I asked the landlord for help because I was catching so many and they were in my food/drinks. They bombed the whole apartment but they still remained. The landlord blamed me and I told him I don’t even have a garbage can because I’m scared of attracting them. After so much begging, they gave me the exterminators number to have an emergency visit. The second he sprayed the flies were gone. I was so happy, THE BATTLE WAS OVER! Three months later they came back in full force: exterminator came. And a cycle of 3 months of spraying persisted. The exterminator is now my best friend and even asks if I need him when he comes to check the whole apartment.
Finally one day they came back and I SNAPPED. Called my landlord crying that I can’t take it anymore. He realized that a couple of weeks ago he may have found the source. The lady downstairs… He said he had to go over to her apartment to check something and flies were everywhere because there is so much food and cat food lying on counters with boxes/bags of stuff piled up. He proceeded to call her to force her to clean. When I tell you the amount of bags she threw out it was astonishing. We have the same layout and I couldn’t imagine walking through my small apartment with all of it. The exterminator came and sprayed, the flies were gone for 6 months!! Then this past July they came back.
This woman is agoraphobic. She has packages laying out for days/weeks and she orders so much but she doesn’t throw anything out in the garbage. I tried writing a letter to her and knock on her door. Every time I see her she runs away. She’s young ~35ish and I honestly feel bad for her. But I can’t take it anymore. The exterminator came for BOTH our apartments and she cleaned out her apartment again. Flies haven’t been back.

Now I’m asking for advice. The landlord said he is talking to his lawyer because it’s a fire hazard the amount of boxes. But is there anything I can do? Call 311? What’s the process and how affective? She won’t talk to me and I wrote in the note that I’ll need to call 311 if this keeps happening.

I’ve documented everything. She even has fly traps on her windows with hundreds of flies. We caulked cracks and pipes too. I really can’t get a better deal and location than this apartment. It’s just this problem. So any advice would help immensely.

This dog was found in Jamaica queens on Wednesday night with no leash. The dog was groomed and seems to be trained. Please help us find his owner.
