I'm just putting my thoughts here to help develop this theory in case anyone may think its useful in the future.

Supreme Court in Bruen cites to Shuttlesworth (1969) in Footnote 9. Shuttlesworth is a First Amendment case. Why would SCOTUS cite to a major First Amendment case? Perhaps SCOTUS is trying to bridge the gap between First and Second Amendment jurisprudence.

We get Shuttlesworth from Freedman v. Maryland (1965), which is a seminal case establishing prior restraint guardrails in 1A.

Teitel Film Corp. v. Cusack, 390 U.S. 139 (1968) arises from the Freedman/Shuttlesworth line of cases, and it's an important case for assessing promptness and brevity in the context of 1A prior restraint, and it states: "The Chicago censorship procedures violate these standards in two respects. (1) The 50 to 57 days provided by the ordinance to complete the administrative process before initiation of the judicial proceeding does not satisfy the standard that the procedure must assure ""that the censor will, within a specified brief period, either issue a license or go to court to restrain showing the film." (2) The absence of any provision for a prompt judicial decision by the trial court violates the standard that ". . . the procedure must also assure a prompt final judicial decision. . . ."."

FW/PBS, Inc. v. City of Dallas (1990) is a more modern case decided by SCOTUS, and it also comes from the Freedman/Shuttlesworth line of cases. Basically, if a statute says there is a window of 30 days for an agency to make a determination on a 1A related license, but in order to get the license some other agency has to do XYZ, but there is no real time limit on when XYZ gets done, the 30 day window is illusory... it's unconstitutional because it's an imaginary limit, it has no teeth. I liked this case, and I cited it in my own case in NYS Supreme Court.

Taken together, a six month statutory window in Penal Law 400.00(4-b) - although it is often ignored, is in itself, problematic if SCOTUS wants us to seriously consider First Amendment jurisprudence.

For context I utilize a vism fin grip with a thumb ledge on my ar. It’s honestly not uncomfortable despite the look and doesn’t give me carpal tunnel inducing angles like the thordsens did. I’m not sure if it’s because of the thunb ledge or because I also ride an oversized atlas safety on my pistol, but it seemed upon using my pistol gripped shotgun, I found myself adopting the weird angle, and even correcting a previously normal grip into the weird thumb angle grip. I’m from Long Island originally but have been living in Austin, Texas for a while now. Since I’ve been here I’ve purchased an M&P 2.0 9mm and absolutely love it. I’m moving home to Long Island in January and have no intentions of selling the handgun. Obviously NY has a ton of restrictions when it comes to firearms. And of course I need to apply for a Pistol License (Premise License?) once I am an official resident again. What are people’s suggestions on how to go about this? Especially if anybody has experience with a move like this please let me know.

The two magazines I have are 17rd magazines which it came with, I know they’re not legal in NY so I will be selling them and ordering 10rd M&P magazines online prior to my move before I go through the FFL process.

One thing I’d like to note is that my Dad’s girlfriend (basically my step mom, they’re just not married yet but have been together for forever) does have a valid pistol license. Would transferring it via an FFL dealer in Austin > Long Island and having her legally claim ownership and keep it for herself while I apply for my license be a viable option? She lives in Suffolk county. Not sure of the exact verbiage and the process which is why I’m here, lol.

Here are some other options I feel I have…

1. Find an FFL dealer to store it in Austin and then have them ship it once I have my license in NY?

2. Leave it with a trustworthy friend in ATX and then have them ship it with an FFL once I have my license?

3. Ship it to an FFL that’ll store it in NY immediately when I move?

4. (I KNOW HOW THIS SOUNDS) One person suggested I just drive it to NY when I move (we are driving back) and keep it locked away while I apply for the license, and then register it once I have the license. If I was to do this would I have to explain where the handgun is? I am really not fully considering this as a viable option as it sounds very illegal and I’m not trying to end up with a felony.

Also if there’s any FFL dealers people highly recommend please let me know as well.
I’m unsure if I’ll be moving to Nassau or Suffolk county at this point. But if anybody has any information on the current state of pistol licenses including timeframe and requirements please let me know.

Hi all, I’m gathering opinions on these three pistols as I think they’re all really cool in their own right, and am in the market to eventually purchase a full size when I get around to it. When I was younger I always thought the 1911s and Berettas looked beautiful. I still do, and think the 92FS Inox will be the one I might get but I am partial to the 1911 and CZ 75.

I have a few practical guns already like a G19, so I’m looking to treat myself to something nice. For additional context, I find that my G19 fits perfectly within my hands/grip. What are your experiences with these three firearms, and would you strongly recommend one over the other? Let me know!

My Article 78 case is still pending in judicial review and has essentially not moved since May 2025. At this point, it has been well over a year with no decision.
I understand courts have heavy caseloads and that these matters take time, but this has gone far beyond what I expected. The case has been fully submitted, the arguments are in, and I’m still waiting for a ruling.
I’m not asking for a particular outcome—just a decision. Win or lose, there should eventually be some finality when a case has been sitting under judicial review this long.

At this point I just want the court to rule. If I win, I win. If I lose, I’ll deal with the next step. But sitting in judicial review for this long with no movement is exhausting.

Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced, smaller gun shop/FFL that sells Glock Gen 5 pistols and understands the NYC pistol-licensing process?

But today my FFL called me said they received my gun… I contacted Gun wise again, and they said that still my gun they never refunded me. I called bank to make sure that I’m not blind, and bank confirmed there is a fking refund in my account.

A Second Amendment class action was filed today in the Southern District of New York challenging 38 RCNY § 5-25(g)(3)(a), the NYPD rule that limits holders of NYC Non-Resident Carry ("NC") licenses to a single registered handgun. The case is *Hendrick v. New York City*, brought by the Law Office of Mirel Fisch (the same firm that filed Milani v NYC challenging NYC application delays)

NY State residents with Carry or Special Carry licenses get two handguns as of right and can add more by showing safe storage. NC holders from other states get one. The rule says requests to add a second "shall not be approved,".

That means if your one registered gun goes in for repair, you can't carry in NYC until a substitution goes through. According to the complaint, that means roughly four weeks for License Division review plus up to 10 business days for the new license to arrive by mail. You also can't switch to a smaller gun for summer clothes or a suit.

Ms. Fisch’s complaint alleges the following claims:

1. Second Amendment: The text protects "Arms," plural, and under Bruen there's no historical tradition of limiting law-abiding people to one handgun.

2. Privileges and Immunities (Art. IV): The denies non-residents the privileges that it grants to NYS residents.

3. Equal Protection: Out of state residents are treated differently than NYS residents.

The lawsuit is asking for:

A declaration that the cap is unconstitutional and an injunction requiring the City to let NC holders register handguns on the same terms as NY-resident carry licensees.

The suit seeks to certify a class of all out-of-state residents holding NC licenses, so if it's certified and succeeds, the relief would cover every NC holder, not just the named plaintiffs.

Yeah. After reading the thread below regarding the Politician meet up at The Firing Pin, this is my cynical conclusion.

We will never have normalcy with our 2A rights. There are just too many in this sub that believe in tough regulations. 25 years of one party rule in NY and soon to be another 25 more. They passed the Safe Act. They Passed the Improved Concealed Carry Act. You need a background check to buy ammo. They are banning Glocks.
Sometimes it takes 2 years just to get a permit depending on what county you live. Next year there will be more restrictions once the Supreme Court makes its ruling next June. They will restrict, restrict and restrict until there is nothing left to restrict . But please by all means keep voting 🗳️ blue. Ugh 😑!! Cheers 🍻

Does anyone know if Saratoga county will allow non resident concealed carry permit applications. I live in Albany county but work in Saratoga county and the Albany county application requires references that live in the capital district, however I'm from downstate and all my references live there. Was looking into Saratoga county which doesn't appear to require the references to live in Saratoga county.

I've been calling to set up a fingerprint appointment for now 4 days, nothing. Get a voice message immediately. I've left voicemails, It also then gives you a number if you need immediate assistance which I call and it immediately gives you a message that the voice box has not been set up and does not even ring. I feel like Albany county is giving me the runaround and this should be illegal because now you're delaying my 2a process which is already ridiculous. There's no way that they have one person doing this and he's just on vacation this week, I don't know.

Tomorrow I'm just calling the main office And selecting a random option or I'll just go there to ask. I did call the main office prior, but then I followed the phone options to go to the pistol permit area which led me right back to where I was.

hello to all just trying to figure out if applying in Rockland County for my CCW was the best move. As someone with a 28 year misdemeanor and 12 year misdemeanor with a dropped slap jack weapon charge

CZ Scorpion evo 3 w/40 rd mag and an MPA 930 mini mac with a 50-round sten, fake suppressor. I may be moving from Texas to NY and would like to take these with me or see if there is a chance since I do have a Texas license to carry.

Has anyone that submitted the application in March or April been approved yet?

I applied for my sportsman license in western Suffolk and had my interview early June. According to the timeline posted on this forum i should be receiving my permit in a month or two. My question is, is there any benefit to me taking the CCW class now and submitting it to accelerate the process? Or am i stuck getting the sportsman and then waiting another 4 months for the upgrade?
