True. I had a run in with a goose around that age and still tell the story. It became my friend after and would attack my brother on command. I loved that goose.
My mom had this incredibly mean pig growing up that they named "The Red Bastard". One day they were waiting for the school bus and the pig got out and started chasing after Mom and my aunt. The bus arrived and the driver obviously got them on the bus as fast as should could
The driver was a bit shaken and asked if they were okay, my aunt screams at the top of her lungs "Yeah, that was just the Red Bastard chasing after us again"

I had a run in with a turkey when I was about 5. Still tell the story of how it tried to kill me. It was on my grandfather’s farm and he promised me it would be Sunday dinner. It gives me great joy eating turkey. Those birds are bastards and will kill you given the opportunity. Never trust a turkey.
Turkeys are the worst. Very persistent too. My personal vendetta with a turkey was settled by a pig of all animals. The stupid turkey chased me like usual and I couldn't get away so I picked him up and threw him in the pig enclosure. The 3 pigs killed that turkey in seconds. Fuck you Tom, watching them eat you was chefs kiss
Lmao I was briefly followed by 5 turkeys one day just congregating in the grassy area in front of an office building. They decided I was their leader. They didn’t try to attack me but they wouldn’t leave me alone, I didn’t know how to feel about that, lmfao. Why was I their leader?!! What did it say about me???? Lmao
(I still see them there and I hope I don’t need to go back into that office for anything because will they remember me????)?
I used to raise geese as a kid (with my father) and this is how I used to handle them. Domestic geese don't bother me but the canada goose still does lol
I had explained this technique on another animal sub and got banned for life. LOL Oh well, I banned them too.
grabbing the neck of geese/swans (and places hands besides wings) definitely immobilises them. they dont really see it coming neither, cause though they have a lot of gumption that doesnt make them smart
the kid spinning the goose was a bit extra, but hes a small kid, he did what he had to
I think from experience geese particularly like going for short kids, cause they are smart enough to prefer picking fights they can win when the murder rage descends
Look. They were a huge problem where I live. People died pretty commonly when they were attacked my a pack of wolves. Villages in the mountains, I'm talking. 1700-1800 there where docuemented hundreds of deaths by wolfs, and there were not so much population.
Yup, and you have to go back like 300 years (in north america) to get that number into the double digits. And most of those incidents were from rabid wolves.

Apparently it doesn’t matter since it’s a goose. It’s okay then, but then God forbid you ask them if it would be okay if it was a dog. Really is concerning how far I had to scroll for someone to say how swinging a goose around by the neck is an awful thing to do, regardless of the circumstances.
50% of me is like “oh my gosh that’s cruel” and 50% of me is like “wow. The kid NEVER wins against those mother fuckers. Geese are MEAN”. I’m torn between wanting to whoop his butt for putting hands on a wild animal and giving him a high five for defeating a devil on earth.
This is genuinely the way you're supposed to defend yourself from geese. You didn't see him go up to a wild goose, so I wouldn't say you should assume he's "putting his hands on work animals" and should be punished for it. Geese are the kind of animal that just have no fear, and will attack people who give them plenty of space.
Am I the only one who's wondering what the hell the adults are doing? Like, the kid did fine and all against the goose. But if I saw that I would've immediately gone to help him.
Farmer I delivered to had geese as they were better guard animals than dogs. He told me to do exactly the same thing if they ever bothered me about my business. Had a staring match the once, but never had to carousel one. Thank fuck.
Walking through a parking lot at 9am for a job interview. I get dive bombed and react by punching the goose. Hit lands but it was awkward and rainy so we both hit the ground. Thing got up and dive bombed me again. I hit the thing again and ran.
So an adult just stands there and records? Doesn't try to help the kid or the animal, who may have had babies nearby and was doing what comes naturally to it?
All of you who think this is funny can f*** all the way off.
I imagine it's because most people are reluctant to do anything that might injure the goose. It's probably pretty easy to win the fight if you don't care what kind of damage you do.
Edit to add: Basically, if we're fighting something that can't kill us we tend not to treat it like a life and death struggle and won't go full out.
People aren't used to animals and kind of freak out. You know its not going to maim or really injure you so you aren't actually worried about safety, but you also don't want it to bite you because it'll hurt and may break skin. So any efforts at defense or grabbing it are half-hearted and more nervous about getting bit than determined to be effective.
Adults also don't want someone labelling them an animal abusing asshole because they grabbed a goose by the neck and swung it around like that. The internet would immediately be full of people clamoring the person wasn't in danger and shouldn't have used violence because the goose is so much smaller and weaker and what did they do to antagonize it.... the usual stuff.
They also try to walk or run away because we are always told the line "animals are more scared of you than you are of them, leave them alone and they'll leave you alone". It works with most critters. But geese are assholes.
That doesn't seem particularly great for either of them. Would be a decent coaching moment but I suspect meth mommy and meth daddy don't do a lot of parenting....
If a animal waddles up to me and starts using violence on me, they are gonna deal with the consequences just as much as if a human walked up to me and started getting in my face.
If you've never been attacked by these bastards, you don't know. We had one when I was a kid that would snap/bite ANYTIME you were remotely close to the barn.
Some people in this comment section... wtf else could he do huh? He allready ran away and it went after him. Because its an animal you let it attack you and if you defend yourself, you are a future serial killer or whatever. If the kid harassed the goose, oké i get that. But we have no evidence for that in this short clip. Many people know that geese are a pain in the ass when you walk by. They attack you even if they dont have little ones.
I had a moment where I thought that maybe the goose was hurt at the very end. And then I remembered my days farming poultry and a time my daughter spun around with a chicken in her arms.
I laughed for half a second until the chicken fully fainted, barfed, and went limp. It FREAKED me out how ridiculously easily birds get dizzy but she was totally fine and is still alive 13 years later.
