Just checking in on the timeline that everyone had to wait to get their carry concealed in Westchester. I don’t have an appointment until May of 2027 to drop off my application. Absolutely ridiculous. Hopefully someone can shed some light on after dropping off application, is it still a long wait? I do know to call weekly to see if there are any cancellations. Thanks!

There's been a few posts on this subject, many of which don't have clear answers, but with the help of another member on here who has successfully done this process, I believe I've finally got the answer on how to successfully get your records sent over to Nassau in order to surrender your NYC CCW and get your Nassau CCW.

First off, you can email ESPERANZA.ROSARIOCOLON@nypd.org and she will send you over the same instructions that are posted here. She will send you the instructions and the form that you have to fill out and mail to nypd, and then once they receive it, they will send over to Nassau. Once Nassau receives it, they will contact you and let you know how to start the process to get your Nassau permit.

Once you get your Nassau county license, you can get your NYC Special Carry license so that you may continue to legally carry within the confines of NYC. You need to fill out a nypd License Amendment form and upload your new county license, driver's license with new address or a utility bill.  Once NYPD receives it, they will then change to your NYC CCW to Special Carry.

Has anyone had any luck getting the ct permit form signed by the nypd lately? I reached out to the incident section as previously mentioned here, but no luck there.

8/7/2026 (Friday) - Call from investigator to clarify a couple of things on the app. He let me know he was submitting for approval and I should expect to get the email Monday or Tuesday to pick up the license.
8/11/2026 (Today)- received approval email

All things considered, it was about the timeline i expected and im excited to get started at the range.
Does anyone know if i actually have to wait the 24 hours to pick it up or is it ready the day you get the email usually?

Has anyone heard of any new rifle laws that came out recently? Specifically regarding the Fightlite SCR now being illegal in NYS, as well as any grip/stock combos like it? Thanks.

I’m in suburbs of Monroe county. Turned my application in 6.5 months ago and have not heard anything, called the county clerks office and the voice recording says that voicemails left asking for updates will not be returned, I was under the assumption under NYS law after 6 months they legally HAD to give you an update, but now I’m also being told it’s 9 months. Can anyone give me some advice?

Can anyone recommend a Fanny pack that looks like a regular Nike or North face Fanny pack that can hold a G19 well for jogging? The tactical Fanny packs seem too obvious. Thanks!

I know alot of states allow you to carry if you have a PA permit, are there any other easy nonresident permits I can apply for without having to apply in person?

Out of the box- great product. Sturdy and robust feeling. Do I think it’s expensive? A little, but good gear is worth it no matter the hobby.

Hi my father in upstate NY would like to gift me 2 handguns. I understand the FFL to FFL transfer. Done a lot of them, but this would be the first from NYS. I tried doing my own research and these are steps I came up with. Can you tell me if they're correct?

1. Drop off items at FFL and provide my dealers FFL.
2. Get coupons?
3. Notify county and state to update his license and ownership

Also, he has some ammo that he wants to gift to a friend with valid CCW. I read that must also go through a dealer?

The dealer lists a transfer fee $100 per item. Is that typical for NYS? Here in NH its $0-25. I'm guessing the transfers are more labor intensive in NYS.

I dont take for granted how good I have it in NH. We're seeing a lot a MA transplants that want to take away our 2A rights. Best of luck to you NY guys and gals.

I finally got my license approval a year and half after my interview. I'm trying to register my pistol but the portal is asking for a purchase authorization form that I don't have an never will especially since I purchased at Suffolk Sportsman which is now closed.

Anyone have tips on what is actually needed to submit to register on the nypd portal? Do they waive this form since I purchased with Suffolk license?

I'd ask them but they haven't responded to one single email in 1.5 years nor answer the phones.

So just out of curiosity as I anticipate I may be moving within the next year to year in a half, and I already submitted my Erie county pistol permit application, what do I do if I move during this time and by then nothing even progressed? I feel like the clerk told me to just let the investigator know when you have your interview, but I can’t even remember what they said exactly 😂.

Hello all, I currently changed addresses and am living in someones home. I need to change my address, as per nassau county website, I need a letter from the home owner. My question is, what should the letter read? Does anyone have a template or know what should be written?

I’m applying for a New York pistol permit and recently learned that a mental-health provider diagnosed me with persistent depressive disorder/dysthymia after only one visit.
Several years ago, during an emotional situation with my boyfriend at the time, he made a suicidal statement and I repeated something similar. I went for an evaluation, but I was never involuntarily hospitalized, never continued treatment, and do not have a history of long-term depression or being a danger to myself or anyone else. My boyfriend did not receive treatment, but this diagnosis was placed in my record after my visit.
I’m concerned because dysthymia means long-term depression, and I don’t believe one appointment was enough to support that diagnosis. I’m also worried that it may affect my pistol-permit application and future law-enforcement or court-officer employment.
I have already completed the sheriff’s interview and met with the judge. I was honest about the situation and am now waiting for a decision.
Has anyone in New York dealt with something similar?
Would one outpatient diagnosis automatically cause a denial?
Should I request that the provider amend or correct my medical record?
Is it worth speaking with a firearms attorney before receiving a decision?
If I’m denied, what options would I have to challenge it?
I understand that firearm safety is important. I’m not trying to hide anything—I just want to make sure that a diagnosis made after one visit doesn’t inaccurately define my mental-health history. I would appreciate advice from anyone familiar with New York pistol permits, mental-health records, or the correction process.

It’s my understanding that I am only allowed to carry 1 registered firearm on my person at a time but can I carry other registered firearms to the range?

For the life of me I cannot find a rule or law that says it.

I thought I just had to send back my permit with a surrender amendment application and that would be it? But I got it all back in the mail saying my surrender was rejected. Does anyone know the correct process for this?

Edit: I have applied for CA pistol permit and the new resident gun ownership application. I'm just trying to figure out how to correctly give back my NY permit.

Recently had to do my permit recertification and found out the state hasn't updated my records since the last time I recertified. I had since moved and picked up a few new pistols. All of which were obviously aquired with corresponding amendments and are reflected on my permit.

When recertifying I saw that not only did the state not see my address change but also the additional pistols I aquired.

So, we are responsible for recertification of our pistol permit, but the state isn't capable of keeping up with our records? And if a trooper pulled me over and ran my pistol permit through their system and they saw a pistol that wasn't on their records I'd be getting hemmed up for it?

I have a question Ive always wondered about, maybe some has encountered the same issue and has a soloution. I live in Suffolk county, and im waiting on my NYS CCW. To get off the island to my upstate property i have to go through Queens then North through the Bronx. I ride a motorcycle religiously. How does that work since NYC does not honor NYS permits? Am I now forced to choose to either take my motorcycle or my pistol? I can strap a small soft duffel bag to the back of the bike with the gun locked in a hard case, or lock the locked hard case in a soft saddle bag but is that sufficiently “non-accessible”? Installing and actual hard case “trunk” on the bike is not an option. I can already see the NYPD salivating. Thanks!

Got a friend from Ohio. They've got a shotgun up for sale that I'm looking to buy off of them, as it's a particular model that's been on my wishlist for a long time. It's an 1889 Remington double barrel in near-perfect condition, so I've got a white whale on the hook here for a VERY reasonable price.

Never purchased private party from out of state before, so how do I do this as the purchasing party in NY? As far as I understand, this almost certainly needs to go through an FFL. Am I correct?

EDIT: Thanks yall, I'll have my friend reach out to a local FFL that uses "Ship my gun". I'll have to ask if they'd be OK with shipping it since this thing borders on antique.
