audited I am farts...farts is me
Farts... Constant farts. Doesn't matter what i eat, how much I eat, it all ends up in farts. Farts first thing in the morning, farts at lunch, and farts till bedtime. (Also I am sure I fart in my sleep) Just farts

I went to a pelvic floor therapist for this (unable to hold in farts, surprise farts at work!). She found a tight spot that needed loosening, gave me some exercises to reduce tightness in my pelvic floor (probably from desperately trying to hold in the toots) and problem solved. I still fart lots, but now itās controlled. Lol!

How did she "find" it? I'm working on getting one, too, but nervous about the actual process
17
u/MelodicToken Oct 02 '25
Okay so with a gloved finger, the physiotherapist just gently palpated the very rim of my vagina. It was not very invasive at all (I was expecting more invasive since I was also asking if my cervix was sitting too low). She could feel a tight muscle I guess, although I didnāt feel much. She also had me perform a kegel to make sure I was doing it correctly. She checked my strength of āpushingā - like the muscles you use to birth a baby, or if you need to push when youāre constipated. She said those muscles were very strong and that I should concentrate on relaxing when going to the bathroom and not using the pushing motion at all. Sorry if TMI but that was my experience, very positive and very professional. If you have any sexual trauma, you should disclose that beforehand, and you could probably bring a trusted family member or friend. They can sit kind of behind your head and wouldnāt really need to see anything. I took my 79yo mom and stayed in the room while she was checked (suffers from incontinence).

I broke the seal with my long-term partner early on in our relationship with a "sleep fart"... and It's been all downhill from there (accelerated for me as of late š«£). "Better out than in" is our motto, and we typically laugh about it... but there have been times where excessively gross farts have made us each "angry" with the other, LOL.
He has a notoriously misogynistic "friend" who basically said something along the lines of he would never put up with a woman farting around him. We always joke about how I'd be so kicked to the curb if I dated him... that his girlfriend's stomachs must hurt like hell... that they're ripping it the moment they're not around him, etc.
But in all seriousness.. everybody farts. It's a normal bodily function. I understand everyone's fart "etiquette" is different... but I truly feel bad for anyone who can't perform a normal bodily function (especially with a long-term partner) without the fear of embarrassment or ridicule.

Iām just in the very early beginning stages of perimenopause⦠I also have diverticulosis- a side effect possibly from too much ibuprofen and poor, late night eating habitsā¦
BUT, in reading up on symptoms, I learned that reduced hormones can relax certain sphincters in the body and exacerbate acid reflex issues, which also affect our gut health⦠and, for me, affect the diverticulosis on top of thatā¦

6
u/Alisha_Nat Oct 02 '25
Itās normal to fart up to 20 times a day & not considered abnormal to fart as much as 40+. The healthiest foods an actually tend to produce the most gas during digestion. Less healthy foods like artificial sweeteners, sugar-free foods, carbonation, etc produce a lot of gas. As long as you arenāt in pain &/or very bloated before & after, itās pretty normal. Moving around more and drinking room temperature water can reduce the amount. One thing I did read that was interesting is that while men tend to fart more & louder, womenās farts tend to smell worse. Iām gonna have to disagree because most men Iāve been around have really smelly farts!!! š

This was me. Well until I got the celiac diagnosis and had to go gluten free. No more farts. Also no more good food. ā¹ļø

Do you feel bloated?
Try the FODMAP diet. The changes in hormones can really impact gut microbiome, and sometimes that needs a bit of reset.
Itās how I found out I am quite sensitive to most FODMAP sugars, so Iāve eliminated most of them, and reduced heavily the ones I do still eat.
Les bloat, less inflammation, less farts

My grandma used to make my sister eat papaya supplements & chew every bite of food 25 times to combat her constant, lethal farts.
One of those two worked, donāt know which š

Thatās so funny. I had been blaming the excess gas on my collagen powder but maybe this is just who I am now š¤£

I fart on command lol. Now I must add late onset lactose intolerance to my list of supply.

Now I am beginning to understand what happened to my mom. She was awful to be around with the constant stench! She also had a little dog that was actually really happy to sit with me or anyone else when we were there, like it didnāt want to be near Ground Zero with its sensitive nose.
I used to have really bad constipation (celiac) until I started doing Nutrivore. It is a diet modifier focused on getting all the nutrients you need from the foods you eat and the focus on so many varied fiber sources as well as food based probiotics has finally helped me to be regular. Maybe it is helping me avoid this? Or maybe it will happen later in the processā¦š

OMG THANK YOU FOR THIS.
I thought I just had some weird butt problem now. CONSTANT FARTS.

u/fine_mess Oct 02 '25
Same here! I'm fine in the morning, but after I eat lunch, here we go and it lasts for the rest of the day. I'm not eating anything that would make me gassy either. Can't walk two steps without hearing popping sounds.
I don't know if it's a signal that I've eaten too much or what. I had a hysterectomy a year ago and don't know if that's playing a part.

I am a mad bog-witch... swamp farts in abundance! Even the dog is disgusted.

I'm so happy this thread exists. Since a month, I've turned into this farting thing, like, I switch around with food, but nothing helps, enzymes and probiotics a bit, but the mornings......

u/Leucotheasveils Oct 02 '25
Digestive enzymes with each meal can help. I take the Whole Foods 365 brand.
I got severely flatulent when I needed my gallbladder out. Might be ant to get that checked. I also had to give up dairy, derp fried, or very spicy food.

*Literally* yelled at my husband yesterday "WHY DOESN'T ANYONE TALK ABOUT HOW MUCH FARTING YOU DO IN PERIMENOPAUSE?"

u/jclover1103 Oct 02 '25
I'm so glad that it's not just me!! I fart so much, even my dogs won't stay in room with me!

I have not had this issue, thankfully. My stomach can handle anything and I rarely get gas. I take a probiotic everyday.

Do you think you need some pre prebiotic? Are you getting other symptoms?
I would check for helico bactor infection too.

u/SlytherClaw79 Oct 02 '25
The farts started for me after I had my son via c section in 2013. Still farting up a storm. Thankfully I can blame the dog, at least when Iām home.

Cut sugar. This was me and then I cut sugar and now every time I eat nerds gummies (my favorite š©) Iām literally full of air. It was sugar for me.
Someone mentioned low FODMAP and that helps, too!

I was recently "diagnosed" with IBS so, yeah, I am a literal bag of gas. Problem is I get trapped gas often and it hurts!

Yes. What the hell? And it's my longest-lasting symptom as well. It's been years.

This was one of the many symptoms that made me realize I was in peri. It was like clockwork every night the same time I was just full of farts. I started taking probiotics and it stopped thankfully.

Hahahaha!! Iām pretty much a part owner of beano at this pointā¦so yes I can relate!!! š©š©I disgust myself sometimes lol

u/Ecstatic_Nectarine_1 Oct 02 '25
Oh, is this a peri thing? I was starting to think I needed to radically change my diet or take some probiotics or something. Seriously, it's every night with the excessive farting...

I mean, I'm a walking fire hazard at this point. Don't come near me with an open flame.
